November 19, 2011

I've been a little slow posting this week.  I've ran or walked everyday this week except for Friday.

Today I ran 4 miles, 44 minutes and burned 427 calories.

Thinking about running in a 5k in a few weeks at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Looks like it would be fun.  It is a childrens charity 5K.

This week

I've walked and ran everyday this week except on Monday.  I don't remember my exact miles and time.  I know I've ran at least 10 miles this week and walked around 8 maybe?

Today I ran on the treadmill for 3 miles and walked 1.5 miles for 63 minutes and burned 500 calories.

Hope to get a long run in tomorrow.

I completed the October Move Your @SS Challenge and went over by 17 miles.   My goal was 100 but I did 117 miles.  The new November Challenge has started and I'm going for 100 again.   I decided not to up my miles with the colder weather coming up but I will make it to 100.  These challenges help me to not slack as much.

Monday walked 3 miles
Tuesday walked 3.5 miles
Wednesday ran 4.25 miles

Saturday and Sunday 10/29 and 10/30

Saturday:
We are having a 5K at the school I work at on November 19th so I decided to run the course or sort of where I thought it is going to go.  The first part is pretty hard.  It is up a hill for a pretty long way.  The rest was not too bad except running back up the rail trail which is not that steep but it is a steady climb for about 3/4 mile.  I ran it slow but ran the entire course.  I've still not decided if I'm going to run or not in the 5K.  I'm afraid there won't be many runners and I would hate to come in near the end of the pack.  Big races are better.  I know I can't win but I won't be last..ha

Sunday:
I decided that Sunday was going to be my long run.  The longest I've ever run at one time is 60 minutes.  I was aiming at 90 mintues this time.  I had sort of tracked out where I was going to run.  I found a route from my house that was pretty flat, only a few little humps to climb.  I started out in front of my house and ran up and down my road for 30 minutes.  The headed out the Startown road to the middle school.  I would say it is around 1.5 miles or a little more from my house to the school.  When I got to the school I ran around the track 4 times (1 mile). Track running is boring to me.  Then I headed back down the road towards home.  By the time I got to my house I had run for 92 minutes.  I got my phone out of my pouch and the dang GPS had stopped, so I don't know exactly how many miles I ran.  I estimated I ran somewhere between 7.5 and 8 miles.  Soon I'm going to go to the park and run there since the course is marked by how far you have gone.  I was happy that I did this and didn't stop.  Hopefully I can run a long run most every weekend.

Funny Letter

I ran across this  on My Fitness Pal today and had to share it on here.

Dear Fat,

We've been together for quite some time but I'm writing to tell you that I'm breaking up with you. It's not me, it's you. You been bringing me down, depressing me and making me look bad in front of my friends. You've made me abandon all my fun clothes to spend more time with you. All my friends keep telling me you're no good for me and I've finally decided to listen to them.

I know those late nights with Ben and Jerry were fun, but they're over now. I've changed and moved on. Plus, I'm starting to see someone else. Yes, I'm seeing Skinny Jeans and she complements me better than you ever did. Please don't beg me to come back. Don't try to tease me with gifts of pizza and chocolate and tell me it's all gonna be okay. That one more time won't matter. Its time you get off my ass, and leave me alone. In most relationships, you hope for the best for the other, but I actually hope you never find anyone else.

I know you're saying, "Well, It's your loss". I truly hope it is.

Sincerely,

The New Me

Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K

It was a pretty chilly 44 degrees this morning for the Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K.  I got up at 5:45 to get ready.  We arrived at the Grand Dunes Marina around 7:00 for the 7:30 start of the race.  The parking lot was full.  We got on our bibs and headed up to the starting point.  They announced that the race was a sellout at 750 runners registered.  We managed to get about 1/3 of the way back from the start line.  The horn blew and we were off to a fast start.  I probably ran harder than I should have for the first mile.  My time at the 1 mile mark was 10:20.  The race was an out and back so I knew if I made it half-way by 15 minutes I might have a chance of finishing 32 minutes.  But, by the time I was at the halfway point I was at 16 minutes and I knew the run back to the finish line would be a little slower.  I wish I would have pushed just a little harder and tried to at least be under 33 minutes.  My final time was 33:20.  That was about 30 seconds faster than my last year time and I am a year older now...ha.  I had a very good time running this race for the 2nd year.

Next year I will register earlier and do it online.  What a mess we had on Friday picking up our packets.  I mailed in the entry form a month ago and the check was never cleared in my bank until a few days ago.  Thank goodness I printed the canceled check.  They did find my info in the computer but Tommy's wasn't in there but they found his mailed in form so all was fixed.  The only disappointing part was our bib numbers didn't have our names printed on it.  We just had a number.

Running a 5K or any race is a good reason to visit the coast of NC or SC.  I'll use this excuse to come to the beach anytime.

I found a new great place to run.  We have a new hospital and it has a 1 mile paved trail around it.  So I decided to give it a try.  I started out on the downhill side but about half way through you have a steady climb for about 1/3 of a mile.  I need to climb hills more.  I managed to run 3 miles then ran another minute to make it 3.1 miles (estimated).  I did it in 33 minutes.  Then the 4th lap I walked and ran in 12 minutes and walked the 5th lap.  So I got in a 5 mile walk/run day on Saturday.  I will go back there again soon.

Thursday 10-13-11

Sheila, Tammy and I had our after work walk today.  It was windy but still warm.  We walked the back streets in town up hills and down for a total of 75 minutes.  Lincolnton is a nice town to walk in but there are some good hills to climb.  We've been pretty easy on Tammy most days but today we gave her one of our harder walks and she did great.
While I had my supper baking I decided to run on the treadmill since I didn't run yesterday.  (I just walked 3.5 miles on Wed.)  I ran 2.25 miles.  Then ate my supper and it was good.  I found a new recipe online called Spasagna.  Oh my it was good.  It was a baked spaghetti with Alfredo sauce and mozzarella cheese baked then you topped it with spaghetti sauce with ground beef.  Very good stuff...fattening too I'm sure.

I went out to try and do a long run today. I was wanting to run for 60 minutes but I couldn't quiet make it.  I did run 50 minutes without stopping.  That is the longest run I've ever had.  It will probably be  next weekend until I try to beat that time.  It's hard during the week to run more than 30-35 minutes but I'll see how it goes this week.  I also walked a mile.

Saturday

The past few days I've just been walking after work.  I walked around 3.5 miles both days.  Today was pretty busy.  Went to Bojangles and had breakfast then to Hardin Salvage.  Cool little store with odds and ends.  After that I went to Gastonia to buy some embroidery thread.  I was getting low on a few colors.  There is a good store there for buying thread at cheap prices.  I've had a lot of embroidery projects to do lately.  So, when I got home I figured I better get out and run.  I got in a 3 mile run.  Burned 333 calories.  After that I ate lunch, got ready and went to a wedding at 2:00. It was very nice.  I helped at the reception and oh my I ate and nibbled on stuff the entire time.  Now I need to detox myself from good wedding food and cake.  Tomorrow we are having a runion and I'll have to cook for that.  Not a good weekend for watching my calories.
Hope to run again tomorrow evening and get in a good long run.

Just finished a 2.5+ mile run  so that puts me over my September goal of walking/running 60 miles.  I should be around 75 miles before the month is over.  One month from tomorrow until the Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K.  I think I will be ready.

Run, Run, Run

I wanted to try and do a long run today.  I went to the school track and started my run.  I was going along pretty well this afternoon.  I ran 2 miles in 21 minutes.  That is probably one of my best times.  Then I walked about a minute and ran another 2 miles.  The second 2 miles was slower at 22.55.  I was happy with my times.  I am trying to up my speed some.   Hopefully by the time I run my next 5K I'll be able to run it in 32 minutes.

Today's Run

I had a pretty good run today.  It was one of those days that I really didn't want to go out but I did  and after I got started I felt pretty good running.  I'm not sure exactly how far I ran but I'm sure it was at least 3.5 miles.  I ran non-stop for 40+ minutes.  I think I could have run a little longer.  Hope to run again tomorrow and Sunday since the weather is cool.

Walked 4 miles......329 calories burned (HRM)
Ran 2 miles.............196 calories burned (HRM)

I really like my heart rate monitor.  It keeps up with my calories burned during exercise and I don't have to guess.  Glad I invested in it.

Tonight I ran my fastest mile ever.  I need to work on speed so I ran 1 mile to see how fast I could do it.  My time was 10:18.  Then I walked some and decided to run 1/2 mile and see if I could run it faster.  I did it in 4:51.  Walked again and then ran a slow 1/2 mile.  Usually I try to run 2.5 - 3 miles without stopping.  I hope I can get the mile under 10 minutes.  This probably don't seem fast to most of you but for me it is good.  I usually average on a 3 mile run around 11:30 minute miles.

Walked after work for about 3 miles.  It was hot out today.  The weekend is going to be cool. Better training weather.

Goodnight!

Ripped Week 3 Day 3

Ripped W3D3 Completed.  Whew.  Today was not as bad on me.  Mornings are better doing this but I can't get up early enough during the week to do it.  My calorie burn was a lot better than last time.  Hope to run this evening when it cools down.  I'm going to look for some new running shoes today.  My legs are beginning to hurt some so I think it's time for a new pair or 2.  Shoe Carnival has Buy one get one half price and I printed a $5 off coupon to use in addition.  My last pair was Saucony and I've really liked them so I will probably get them again.

Thursday September 8th

I came home from work and decided to do "Ripped" Week 3 Day 2.  I do not like week 3 much at all.  Maybe it will get better but some of the exercises are just awkward.  I got the hang of week 2 pretty good.  I'm going to try and get 6 days of week 3 in if I can stand it.  But, I did it and glad I did.  I still felt like I needed to go out and run since I've not run in 3 days.  I am planning on trying a few 5K's this fall and I need to keep running and I need to do it more often.  I really thought I would tire out fast today but I ran 2 miles then walked 1/2 mile then ran 1 more mile and finished walking another 1/2. So, I got in 4 miles today along with ripped.  I will probably not run tomorrow since we will be walking after work.  My weight is at a stand still these days.  I can't seem to lose anything.  I wanted to lose a few more pounds but I'm not going to kill myself trying.  I will update again in a few days.

Pretty decent calorie burn today.

Ripped Week 3 Day 1

Yesterday I started Ripped Week 3.  It was a pretty hard workout.  The push-ups in this level were different than anything I've done before but they weren't bad.  You get on your hands and feet and your bottem is up instead of flat.  Then you do the push-ups by touching the top of your head toward the floor.  It was a fast moving routine and I was sweating a lot.  I know on the sit-ups with leg lifts in this level I will have to change back to 3 pound weights.  I couldn't do them at all with the 5 pound weights.  My arms arn not strong enough.  I need to work on them more.  I walked right after work on Tuesday.  I think it was around 4 miles.  Today we walked again about the same amount of time.  I'm being lazy tonight and not doing anymore.  I'm tired and going to watch tv this evening and lay around. No Ripped tonight.  Hopefully I will tomorrow.

September 5, 2011

Had a good beach trip for Labor Day.  Now back to the real world of eating right and exercising more.  I did good on keeping my calories down on Monday.  We were suppose to have a lot of rain Monday afternoon and evening from Tropical Storm Lee.  The rain was off and on all afternoon, so I decided to go outside on my road and get my running done since I've not run in 4-5 days.  I ran 3 miles and walked 1.5 miles.  It totaled 60 minutes of exercise.  Didn't do Ripped.  It's hard to get both in on most days but I will try if I can.  Hopefully today (Tuesday) I will be able to walk after work.  Still having a lot of rain and under a tornado watch until 8pm tonight, so I'll have to see how the weather hold out.  I might have to use the treadmill after work and start Ripped week 3.

Labor Day Weekend

I didn't think I would get any exercise in on Friday but I decided to walk in the gym at school during my lunch.  I got  a 30 minute walk in at lunch.  After work we packed the car and headed for the beach.  Traffic was pretty bad in Charlotte but most of the trip wasn't so bad.
Saturday we walked to breakfast so I got in about a half mile walk, then I spent the rest of the day on the beach laying around.  When I came in I got out my laptop and "Ripped" with Jillian.  The traffice at the beach was pretty heavy so we walked to a Mexican restaurant and had supper.  Then we decided to walk on more and ride the new Sky Wheel in Myrtle Beach.  I used my phone and the gps said it was 1.5 miles, so we walked there and rode the wheel and walked around MB for a while.  The walk back was nice on the board walk at MB.  It is really nice and pretty.  There was a little mexican boy sitting by himself, around 2-3 years old.  I tried to ask him where his Mama was, then another lady stopped to try to help.  He wouldn't talk or look at us.  He was sort of crying.  I don't think he understood what we were saying.  Then a woman yelled out of a motel that his mama was coming that he was tired and she just let him sit there.  People are crazy leaving  little kids alone like that. So anyway back to my exercise.   I figured I walked at least 4 miles on Saturday and did 30 minutes of Ripped.  This morning we walked to Friendly's for breakfast.  That was about a mile total walk.  Planning on doing Ripped and more walking later today.  Now back on the beach for the rest of the afternoon.

September Move my @$$ Challenge

Update on August Move Your A$$ Challenge.
So I ran a little more and my final miles for August was 43.3 miles.
A guy called dino kept up with everyones miles and has created a spreadsheet.  You can look at it on google docs. here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?pli=1&key=0As57uSwFQUGJdC1OU0dvNEdQSXpWQzhfYjdTb1plWnc#gid=9
I'm listed as luckysusan.

So I joined the September challenge and this month I'm going to try for 60 miles but I'm counting running and walking this month since we walk most weekdays after work. (well we've not done so good yet but next week we will).  It's fun trying to make your goal with others in a Challenge.  If you want to join our group go to myfitnesspal.com and join then look for Move Your A$$ Challenge under the Community section.

I skipped yesterday's Ripped since I ran but tonight I'm planning on doing week 2 day 6.  I will probably do one more day of week 2 since I skipped Wednesday.  Then on to week 3.

Everyone have a good safe Labor Day weekend.  I'll be Ripping/Walking/Running at Myrtle Beach!(and probably eating way too much)

August Move my @$$ Challenge

I made my goal in the August Move my @$$ Challenge.  My goal was to run 40 miles in the month of August and today I logged 40.65 miles.  This was a group I joined on my fitness pal.  Wasn't sure I was going to make it since I've not been doing a lot of running in the past week.  Yesterday I ran 3 miles and today 2.5 miles to put me over.  I might get a few  more in before the month is over.

So I did week 2 day 3 of ripped.  I bought some 5lb weights (been using 3lb).  Yesterday was my first time using them and today my arms are so sore.  It's hard to believe that 2lb heavier weights can make that much difference.  All I can say about week 2 is  it is HARD WORK! But I know it is worth it to push harder.  I have to work hard this week since I'm going to the beach for Labor Day weekend.

Ripped in 30 Week 2 Day 1

I just completed week 2 day 1 of Ripped in 30 and it was hard.  Still has a few moves from shred but there were some tuff moves.  The hardest one being push-ups with side leg raises.  It is impossible for me to do this move.  My body is not made for it..haha.  Maybe I'll be better in a few days but I doubt it.  Everything else I was pretty much able to do, maybe not exactly right but I did them.  The first day is always hard because you don't know what she is going to do next.  The moves are about the same as past exercises she has done but she might add something new to do with them.   Hopefully I will burn more calories after I am more familiar with it.  I will update on week 2 in a few days.

Ripped Days 3,4 and 5

I have almost completed level 1 of Ripped in 30 days.  Tomorrow will be my 6th day and I'll take Friday off before starting Level 2 on Saturday.  It is going pretty well considering I'm having to do it after work now instead of mornings like I did 30DS.  I have been trying to walk or run too but today I just couldn't do it.  Maybe after I get myself use to going back to work it will be easier.  I'm thinking about trying to get up and do it before work next week and see how that goes.  I would only need to get up about 15 minutes earlier and not mess around and check emails, facebook and MFP.  I'll see on Monday.  The next post will probably be after I start Level 2.

Ripped Day 2

Today I did the 2nd day of week one of Ripped in 30.  It is a pretty good workout.  I guess yesterday I was watching more than I was doing since I didn't know the moves.  I burned almost 40 more calories today than yesterday doing the same routine.  I even did the push-ups the correct way the entire time.  Jillian moves along pretty quick from one exercise to the next.  The trainers she has with her are a little strange to me especially the little blonde one.  I liked the ones in 30 Day Shred better.
I need to get some heavier weights.  All I have are 3lb weights.  I need to check at Wal-Mart for some 5lb weights this week.  I also ran 2 miles today on my treadmill.  After I finish this 30 days I am going to have to train hard for my next 5K.
So I didn't really overeat much this weekend but I did eat some of the wrong things.  I know I can't bake cookies for myself or I will eat them all.  I made some for my daughter and I ate 4 while they were still warm.

Finshed with Shred...Ripped in 30 Week 1 Day 1 Started today!

I ordered Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and it came in today.  I am planning on starting it later today or tomorrow.   I wasn't sure if I was ready to move on from the Shred to Ripped, so for 11 days I continued on with 30DS.  I am not burning the calories like I did during the first 30 days.  I have been just alternating the levels so it would not get dull.  It has been fun doing it this way but I think I'm ready to jump on the new DVD and give it a whirl.  I did take new measurements today but not new photos.  I've not changed much in the past 11 workouts.  I did lose another 1.4 pounds and 1.5 inches but no real physical change there.
So here I go again.  Hope to be Ripped in 30 days or so.

****UPDATE****
I did Week 1 Day 1 this evening.  It went pretty good.   Some of the exercises were the same as the 30DS, but there were some new moves too.  I do not like push ups.  I did most of them in the harder version but I don't like them.  I need to push myself harder so I can burn more calories.  It took me 34 minutes from start to finish including warm ups and cool downs.  She says on this one to take a day or 2 each week to rest.  They did not say that in 30DS.  I am planning on just taking one day off per week.  There are 4 different workouts in this DVD series.  It should be less repetitive than 30DS. I did the 30DS this morning before  my new DVD arrived so I had a double header of Jillian today.

Day 30 Level 3

I did it.  I did 30 days straight of the 30 Day Shred.  I'm happy with myself for staying with this program.  My back pain is pretty much gone today and I did the last day pretty well.  I would advise anyone to try this.  I can see results and I hope you can too by my photos.  It takes hard work to get results.  I watched my diet and I also did my regular exercises most days either running or walking or both.  I needed this type of exercise to help me tone up my middle section.  I am planning on doing the 30 day Shred at least 3-4 times a week and maybe move on up to one of Jillian's other workouts.

Ok So here is my results for the past 30 days:
Weight Lost: 6.6 pounds
Total Inches Lost 7.5

Waist: -1.5"
Belly (below waist) -1"
Hips: -1"
Bust: -.5"
Left Thigh: -.5"
Right Thigh: -1"
Left Arm: -.25"
Right Arm: -.25"
Mid-drift: -1.5"

Day 29 Level 3

29 down.....1 to Go!!!

Well, I'm down to one day of shredding to go.  I've been nursing my back and it felt a little better today.  I didn't work as hard as I could have on this workout.  I could still feel some pain.  Hopefully tomorrow on my final day I can work hard.  I did a few extra things at the end to up my calorie burn today.  Tomorrow I am planning on posting my before and after pictures and my results.  It might be later in the day before I can all of this done but stay tuned.  Doubt I will do anymore exercise today.  Going to take it easy before the final!

Day 28 Level 3

2 more days and I will be finished.  I hope I can make it the final 2 days.  I'm still having a little pain in my back.  I'm probably overdoing it with the shred and running too.  I'm going to slow down a little next week when this is over.  So, I decided I need to go weigh in at weight watchers this morning.  I go once or twice each month.  I am a life time member and below my goal so I still go by and weigh in and go to the meeting since it is FREE for me.  I don't count points anymore since I use My Fitness Pal.  I've not really gotten use to the new points system.  Before I left for the meeting I ran on the treadmill then did Day 28 of the 30 Day Shred.  Everything still pretty much the same on the workout.
It has been raining cats and dogs here this morning.  I was out driving in this mess and glad to be back home.

Day 27 Level 3

Day 27 was hard for me today.  I think I pulled something in my lower back yesterday and some of the moves I couldn't do today because it hurt.  I did a few extra cario moves at the end to make up for some of the ones I had trouble with.  The leg raises were the worst on my back and I had to keep my legs higher on the sissor move.  I've taken some Advil so maybe the pain will get better.  I'm not stopping no matter what with just 3 days left.

I decided not to run this morning due to the heat and my back, but I did go outside and walked for an hour.  I love listening to Bob and Sheri and I download their podcast on my Ipod and listen while I walk.  If you don't know about them you should listen to them on your radio at 107.9 or at http://www.bobandsheri.com/

Day 26 Level 3 Completed

4 more days to go.  I'm glad I've stuck with this.  I will be anxious to see my final results.  I know it won't be any miracle weight loss or inches lost but I feel toned up from doing this DVD.
I went out this morning and ran 20 minutes then walked 30 before doing day 26.  Today's workout was really no different.  My carpet burned elbow is never going to heal until I finish this level.  Besides the elbow I got through it pretty well today.

Day 25 Level 3

Day 25 Level 3 Completed.  5 to go...Yeah

I woke up this morning and weighed and was back down thank goodness.  It was a little cooler this morning so I went outside and mostly ran for 45 minutes.  It has been too dang hot to do anything outdoors and this week is no exception.  High of 98 today.  I burned a lot of calories and sweated big time.  Came in and cooled off, had breakfast and then went to work on day 25.  Not a lot to report on this really.  Same routine for 10 days.  Still some parts are really hard for me but I push through it and do the best I can.
I joined a new group on my fitness pal.  It is called "August, Move your A$$ Challenge".  My goal is to run 30-40 miles in August.  Normally 40-50 miles wouldn't be hard but going back to work in 2 weeks will make it a little harder to get it in.  I'm going to push hard at it for the next 2 weeks.  I would like to run in a 5K sometime this fall, hopefully the one I ran in last year at Myrtle Beach.

So, my exercise is finished for the day.  I think I need a shopping day today.

Day 24 Level 3

24 straight days completed.

So I woke up early today because I'm getting a new roof and they roofers were here at 5:45...grrr.  I was a little lazy though and just completed my workout  around 8:45.  I'm stuck in the house all day so hopefully I can get a lot done including running on the treadmill later on today.  18 days and back to work for me.  It's been a fast summer but I like having summers off.

The workout went pretty good today.  The hardest part for me today was the move where we go in a plank on the weights and lift the weight then do a leg lift.  I did the first round the hard way but when we went back to it the second time I had to modify them like Anita does.  Besides that I did pretty good on everything else.  I think after I complete level 3 I will do a week or so of all of them and not just do one level at a time.  That should make it not as boring, but level 3 isn't boring at all, or not yet.

I was gone a lot last week when Tommy's Mom passed away.  She was a sweet woman and will be missed.  But, I did eat some of the wrong things while gone and now my weight is  up a little.  I'll have to work hard this week, but I hope it will come  off fast.

Day 23 Level 3

Day 23 Level 3 Completed

This workout is still hard.  I need hard but I don't know if I will ever be able to complete it without doing part of it modified.  I grunt and groan a lot..haha.  I must have not worked as hard today but I felt like it.  My HRM said I only burned 191 calories and I have been in the 215 range the previous 2 days.  I guess tomorrow I will have to push harder.  7 more days of level 3 if I survive it.  I like it and like the exercises but it is tough.

Hopefully I can walk or something later on today.

Day 22 Level 3

All I can say is oh Lordy that was hard.

Day 22 Level 3 completed

This level is non-stop.  All of it seems like cardio to me.  It is really a workout let me tell you.  The first round of weight training you start out on your elbows in a plank then rock up on your hands. So you go up and down from elbow to hands.  I have carpet  burn on my one of my elbows from this, so be careful not to drag your elbow.  I still forget when and what all I did.  Another one that is hard to me is the sissor move.  Lay on your back and have your feet around 3" from the ground and do a sissor move.  It is hard.  Like I said everything is fast moving and non-stop in this circuit.  There are several moves she has you jumping up.

I ran 30 minutes on the treadmill.  Burned more calories than I thought I had been burning.  My HRM recorded 290 calories.

Day 21 Level 3

First day of Level 3 and it was a lot different.  I was really working hard on this one.  Sweat, Sweat, Sweat.  I need that though.  I really can't remember what all I did.  Jumping jacks with weights were pretty hard and the push ups and oh everything..ha.  I'll try and remember tomorrow what all I did.
I did get my new Heart Rate Monitor.  I got a Polar FT4.  It's pretty cool.  I used it today on my workout.  I started it on the warmup and used it through the end of the cool down.  In 27 minutes I burned 216 calories on Level 3.  I looked online to see what my exercising maximum heart rate should be and it said 166 and my highest was 167.  My average HR was 141 during the 27 minutes.  I'm going to have to research more about heart rates.  It will probably take me a few days to figure it out.

Hopefully I will be back on my morning exercise schedule after today.  I've had to work it in when I can the past 3 days.

Day 20 Level 2

Yeah, I just completed Day 20 Level 2.....on to Level 3 tomorrow.

It was pretty hard doing day 20 this morning at 8:30 since I did day 19 yesterday around 5 PM, but I got it done.  I'm ready to move on and see what level 3 will bring.  I've not pre-viewed it at all so I'm in for some surprises.  It will be late tomorrow until I can do level 3.

I did my weigh in and measurments a day early since I won't be home in the morning to check it and I don't count my weight except first thing in the mornings.  The results were not as good as I had hoped for but I did have some change.  This is the change from the start of level 2 until today.  I'll give a total loss at the end of the 30 days.

Well, wasn't sure I was going to get Day 19 in today or not.  Lot's happened in the past 24 hours.  I won't get into that but the next few days will be hard to get it in, but I will.  Maybe not on my regular schedule though.
So, I just completed today's workout.  It went well.  Nothing really different to report.  I should be able to get day 20 in tomorrow morning.  Day 21, Level 3 will be later on Friday, then I should be back on schedule.

That's it for today.

Day 18 Level 2

Just finished Day 18.  I was lazy this morning.  I woke up, played around on the computer, had my breakfast and finally did the shred.  Usually I go out and walk or something first and I usually eat breakfast after I do all of it.  I guess I was still tired from my workout day yesterday.  More on that in a minute.
So today's workout went good after I got myself motivated to do it.  I did a little better on the plank thrust today.  I probably did half or more the hard way.  It hurts my toes more than anything bouncing on them back and forth.  Everything else I did without hurting too bad.  I know you shouldn't weigh everyday but I can't help it.  I should have not today though.  I was actually up after burning well over 800 calories and eating well within my limit.  Maybe I'm just building muscle.  So, after all of my exercise yesterday at home I went to Sadie's Zumba and Aqua Zumba classes.  I've never done Zumba and it was fun.  I kept up pretty well. I don't have the wiggles that she has.  Everyone in the class was nice.  They all love Sadie and was happy I came to the class.  The Aqua Zumba was fun too.  It was nice an cool in the pool and I didn't sweat.  Poor Sadie was dripping with sweat since she was doing the instructions on the side of the pool in at least 85degree weather.  Not sure when I'll have a chance to do any of this again but I think doing the 30 Day Shred helped me keep up with Zumba.

My heart rate monitor will hopefully be here today.  Can't wait to try it out.

Day 17 Level 2

Day 17 Level 2 completed.

I went outside this morning and sort or walked and ran.  I ran one mile then walked a while. Then walk, then run off and on.  I figure I ran 2 miles and walked about 1 1/2 miles.  Came inside and cooled off for a few mintues and then started "The Shred"  The first circuit seemed to be taking forever today but after I got through that it went pretty quickly.

I'm going to get pleanty of exercise in today.  I hope to burn a lot of calories.  This afternoon I am going to Pilot Mtn to Armfield Civic and Recreational Center http://www.armfieldcenter.com/  Sadie, my daughter works here and I am going to her Zumba class and maybe to Aqua Zumba.  I've never done Zumba, not sure I can shake and shimmy but I'll try.  I'll let you know tomorrow how this turned out.

Day 16 Level 2

Completed day 16 today.  I can't believe that I have kept it up 16 days in a row.  Not a lot to report on the actual workout.  I've been doing the same routine now for the past 6 days.  The squat thrust are still hard on me and I do them mostly the modified version.  I can tell the planks are making my arms stronger.

Weekends are harder on my eating habits.  I did have half of a delicious chocolate/reece cup milkshake from Cookout yesterday.  That might explain that I am up 1 pound this morning.  If you don't live in NC you probably have never heard of Cookout.  They have the best milkshakes anywhere, any kind you want.  I try to stay away from there but sometimes you just gotta go.  I ususally go up a pound or so on the weekends.  I'm not exercising quiet as much on the weekends.

I have noticed since I have started toning up some that my waistline is uneven.  My left side seems to hang over more than my right side.  This is my biggest problem area that I hope the 30 Day Shred will help.  I know I'll never have the waist and tummy I had 40 years ago..haha.  Not planning on ever wearing a bikini anyway..ha

Planning on running this afternoon on my treadmill.  Got to get that pound off.

Day 14 Level 2

I got up early this morning and did Day 14 as soon as I got up.  It was pretty hard going right into it.  Usually I walk before I do the DVD.  After I got started it got a little better.  One more day and I'll be at the half-way point.  Then I did run and walk on the treadmill for 35 minutes.  I'm thinking about getting the DVD "Ripped in 30"  but I might wait until I get closer to the end of this one.  I did order my HRM yesterday.  Amazon was the best deal.  The one I was watching on ebay sold for more than the one on amazon.

Heading to Asheville to spend the day with Jamie (daughter).  Hope I don't eat too much of the wrong things :-))

Day 13 Level 2

Today seemed a little harder for me.  I think I was working harder at it all this morning.  Still have a few places that I have a little strugle with.  I can do the walk out push-ups pretty good, but I know that I don't go down low enough on the push-ups.  I'm sort of in between the regular and modified version.  I doubt I will ever get all the way down on push-ups.  My arms just can't take that torture.  I kinda like doing the plank jacks.  On this one you go in a plank position and then you take your legs out to the side like you do on regular jumping jacks.  The bad part is you go right into double jump-rope after this.  I still have to do the single jump-rope moves.  I can't bounce that much or that high.  Getting up and down off the floor fast isn't so easy either for someone my age..ha.

So, I'm almost certain I am going to buy a HRM(Heart Rate Monitor).  I talked to Sadie (daughter) yesterday and she has a Polar FT4.  She is a fitness instructor and she likes this one.  I think that is probably what I will get too.  The best deal so far is on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U0OFD2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER    Although I am watching a couple on eBay that are ending today.

Day 12 Level 2

2 Days of Level 2 completed.  So far I am liking level 2.  Yesterday was a little hard since I didn't know what to expect next, but today I did pretty well keeping up with the girls.  I try to do it Natalie's way but sometimes I have to go with Anita.  In case you don't know, Natalie is the advanced instructor and Anita is the modified.  I think I do pretty well considering these girls are 25 years younger than I am.  There are a few moves in level 2 that are hard for me to do.  I forgot what this move was called, but you get in a plank position and then you jump your feet and legs in and out.  I can do a few of these but it is hard on my knees.  Another one that is hard but I think it is because I can't get my legs and arms coordinated is the twisting thing with swinging arms.  It isn't that hard just my brain can't remember which way to go.  The last cardio is a real workout too.  Before level 2 is over I think I will be able to keep up with Nat.

This morning I went outside for an hour walk.  3.5 miles.  Another hot day here in NC.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any running in this week outside.  Looks like if I do it will be on the treadmill.

If you are following my blog, I am not a writer.  So, if you are looking for good reading materials I doubt you will find it here.  I'm just doing this to keep myself accountable for what I am trying to do on the 30DS.

Day 10 Level1

Level One is over.  I just finished the 10th day.  I was going to talk about inches and weight lost for the first ten days but I have decided to wait until tomorrow morning to weigh and measure before I start Level 2.  I will do this at the beginning of each Level.  This will give me 10 full days between weighing and measuring.

This morning I started out running and boy was it hot.  I ran a total of 2 miles and walked around 2.  I was sweating so much.  When I came in I changed to dry clothes and made my breakfast smoothie out of fresh peaches and fresh blueberries along with a piece of toast.  After a short break I started my final Level 1 routine.  I got through it pretty easy.  Still hate jumping jacks.  Hopefully level 2 will not have them.

I will update my blog sometime tomorrow.  Not sure when.  I have to go out of town to a funeral so it might be later on if I can't get it posted early tomorrow.

Day 9 Level 1 done for the day.  I'm excited that I've made it this far without missing a day.  It went pretty well.  Don't want to bore anyone that might be reading my blog with the same old thing.   I walked 40 minutes on the treadmill before starting day 9.  I am planning on taking my measurements and weight tomorrow after the first 10 days are over.  I will let you know my results so far on tomorrow's blog.

So, Friday night and yesterday I was out of town.  While gone I managed to pick 2 gallons of blueberries and have most of them in the freezer.  I also stopped in SC and picked up a bag of peaches.  I am planning on having a fresh blueberry and peach smoothie sometime today..mmmmmm.

Day 8 Level 1

Day 8 Level 1 is completed and today was the easiest workout that I've felt.  I pretty much did everything that Jillian said to do.  Still doing part of the push-ups modified, but she says you can do it either way so I'll pick modified most of the time.  I even managed to do the jumping jacks and jumprope pretty easy.  So if you are doing this program it will get easier for you at least in level 1.  Level 2 could be a different story.  Not much else to report on today's workout.  I'm going to take it easy today and not do my running.  I might walk some later today.

Day 7 Level 1

Well, well, well.  Here I am one week later and I've completed Day 7 Level 1.  I'm pretty happy with myself for getting through this week.  3 more days and on to Level 2.  I'm ready to move on to try some new stuff.

This morning I did my shredding first thing.  I still do not like the first circuit.  Doing the push-ups and then going right into jumping jacks and the jump-rope exercises is just plain dang hard.  I'm not going to lie.  I always have a sigh of relief when this part is over.  I can do the rest of it without as much of an effort.  Hopefully Level 2 will break it down a little better.  So, after the shred I decided to get my running in.  This morning here was nice and cool.  Such a big difference from Wednesday to Friday.  All done for the day. Tomorrow I'm planning on just doing 30DS and not anything else.   I think my body needs a break from all that I've done this week.  But I know the more exercise I do the more food I can have ;-))

Day 6 Level 1

Ok second try at this post.  I had it all typed out and there was an error...ugg
So where was I???

Day 6 Level 1 Completed.
Yeah for me.  6 days straight of shredding with Jillian.  We have a love/hate relationship.
I pretty much have the level 1 routine memorized after 6 days.   All in all I can do everything.  There are a few places that I still strugle with but I work through it.

This morning I went out for an early morning run and walk.  I managed to run 3 miles today.  Today was not as hot as the past couple of days and I wanted to get everything done early.  After running I came home and went right to shredding.  I know that I have been pushing myself this week with my exercise but when school starts back and I have to go back to work I won't have the time or energy to put into it.  So for the next month I hope to push as hard as I can.

Day 5 Level 1

Day 5 of Level One completed.  That makes me half way through the first level of the 30 Day Shred.

This morning I slept a little later than normal and it was 8:00 until I went out for my morning walk.  So, I just walked 45 minutes.  It is really hot again this morning.  At 9am the temperature was 86 degrees.  I came in and cooled off a few minutes and then went right into my 30 day Shred program.  It seemed to go by pretty quick.  I'm still struggling a little with pushups and cardio in the first circuit.  I do it but it kills me.  I'm ready to see what the next level will bring but I'm not going to start it until day 11.  I am enjoying reading the results in the group I joined on myfitnesspal.  They are very supportative and funny in some of their comments.
I cheated a little today and took my measurments.  I was surprised to see some results since Saturday.  I'm not going to post the results yet.  Might after the first 10 days level 1 is complete.   Looks like my running will still be on the treadmill on these hot days.  I should manage to get that in sometime during the day.

Day 4 Level 1

Day 4 Level 1 is complete.  Some parts are getting easier but there are a few parts that kills me but I do it anyway.  I forced myself to do 10 regular pushups today before I went to the modified pushups.   Maybe by the end of level 1 I will have them mastered.  The first round of cardio is still kicking my butt.  Maybe it is in my mind that these are hard.  Not much else to report on Level 1.  I've not looked at level 2 or 3 yet.  I'll just take it as it comes.  I think I am getting results as least by the scales.  I was up a few pounds when I started the program.  I'm sure it was from being at the beach for 5 days and eating the wrong things.  Now I'm pretty much back to my pre-beach weight.

This morning instead of my 30 minute run I decided to just walk for 60 minutes.  It was really hot and sticky at 7am this morning and I didn't want to risk having a heat stroke or anything.  I might do a little running inside on the treadmill later today.

So, lastnight I made me a really good treat.  I had a Yoplait 3 Berry Smoothie.  They are in the freezer section of  the grocery store.  It was sort of expensive $2.50 at Walmart for 2 servings but I ate both.  It was 70  calories per serving.  I think I'll try it with water instead of milk next time to save calories.  It would make the entire pack only be 60 calories instead of 140.   I printed a coupon online for $1 off and my grocery store has double coupons so I'm going to see if they have them.  If not I will just get fruit and make my own smoothies.

My little garden is growing pretty well.  I've had green beans galore and yummy tomatoes are really coming fast.  I have about 20 on my kitchen counter now.  Here is a picture from the items I picked on Saturday.

I guess that is about it for today.

Day 3 Level 1

Well I woke up this morning and watched the weather and it was already Hot here at 7am.  I knew if I was going to get my running in outdoors I needed to get to it.  So by 7:20 I was outside in front of my house running for 30 minutes.  It was hot.  My road is partly shady so I decided to continue on and walk another 30 minutes to cool down.  After coming inside I felt pretty good so I popped in my DVD and started Day 3 Level 1 of the 30DS.  The pushups still kill me.  I started out trying the regular pushups but after 6 I had to switch to the modified pushups.  I'm always glad when the first 6 minute circuit is over. The rest seem fairly easy compaired to this one.  I'm glad my exercise is complete for the day.

I use several online programs to log my exercise and eating.  If you've never heard of or used myfitnesspal.com you should try it out.  It is a good tool for tracking what you eat and exercise.  It is sort of like facebook for health and fitness.  I joined a new group on Saturday and we are all doing the 30 Day Shred together and posting our results.  The support will help you stick with the program.  Thanks Group!

Another tool that I use on my smartphone is mapmyrun.com  You can use the program to record your distance, time, calories and much more.  It maps where you run too.  I also use the computer version.  You can join challanges and they say earn prizes but I've never gotten any..ha.

Calories I've burned today:
30 Day Shred - 20 minutes = 165 Calories
30 minutes of walking = 117 Calories
30 minutes of running = 266 Calories
30 minute walking on treadmill = 117

Day 2 Level 1

I woke up a little sore this morning from Day 1.  Especially in my arms and shoulders.  I think the pushups did it.  I don't like pushups much.  So after breakfast this morning I decided to go ahead and do Day 2 Level 1.  It wasn't so bad.  I still think the first phase of level one is the most difficult.  I managed to do it all even with some sore muscles. The hardest part for me is getting off of the floor and going right into standing exercises.  Old people like me can lose their balance easy :-)  Yesterday I did manange to get my 30 minute run in also.  I'm going to try to do both most days.  Stay tuned to tomorrow for my next update.

Day 1 Level 1

Today I begin the 1st day of 30 days of The 30 Day Shred.  I took before pictures and made a spread sheet of my starting weight and measurements.  I will record them weekly to see how I'm doing and will update on my total pounds and inches lost.  Hopefully there will be results.  So, I got my DVD all ready to go and my 3 pound hand weights.  The first thing was a 2 minute warm up.  After that we went into 3 minutes of hand weights, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs.  The cardio was a little tough doing the jumping jacks and jump robe moves but I did it.  After that it went right into the 2nd workout.  Same thing but different exercises.  3 minutes of weights, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs.  This workout seemed a lot easier than the first one.  The 3rd workout was the same 3 minutes of weights, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs.  The cardio combined what we did in the previous 2.  30 seconds of jumping jacks, 30 seconds of jumprope, 30 seconds butt kicks and 30 seconds of punches.  Then we did a 2 minute cool down.
The insructions were well planned and easy to follow.  I am planning on doing level 1 for 10 days, level 2 for the second 10 and level 3 for the last 10.  I might change that up if I find I can move on faster.

I ran 30 minutes this afternoon too :-)

Friday July 8, 2011

I ordered the Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred DVD.  I'm planning on starting it tomorrow and will post my thoughts of it and how I feel after each workout.  I might even put a picture of my before and after.  I will see how it goes.  Hopefully in 30 days I'll have some good results.  Check back each day and cheer me on.
