Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K

It was a pretty chilly 44 degrees this morning for the Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K.  I got up at 5:45 to get ready.  We arrived at the Grand Dunes Marina around 7:00 for the 7:30 start of the race.  The parking lot was full.  We got on our bibs and headed up to the starting point.  They announced that the race was a sellout at 750 runners registered.  We managed to get about 1/3 of the way back from the start line.  The horn blew and we were off to a fast start.  I probably ran harder than I should have for the first mile.  My time at the 1 mile mark was 10:20.  The race was an out and back so I knew if I made it half-way by 15 minutes I might have a chance of finishing 32 minutes.  But, by the time I was at the halfway point I was at 16 minutes and I knew the run back to the finish line would be a little slower.  I wish I would have pushed just a little harder and tried to at least be under 33 minutes.  My final time was 33:20.  That was about 30 seconds faster than my last year time and I am a year older now...ha.  I had a very good time running this race for the 2nd year.

Next year I will register earlier and do it online.  What a mess we had on Friday picking up our packets.  I mailed in the entry form a month ago and the check was never cleared in my bank until a few days ago.  Thank goodness I printed the canceled check.  They did find my info in the computer but Tommy's wasn't in there but they found his mailed in form so all was fixed.  The only disappointing part was our bib numbers didn't have our names printed on it.  We just had a number.

Running a 5K or any race is a good reason to visit the coast of NC or SC.  I'll use this excuse to come to the beach anytime.

My results are posted here if this link will work:
