Saturday:
We are having a 5K at the school I work at on November 19th so I decided to run the course or sort of where I thought it is going to go. The first part is pretty hard. It is up a hill for a pretty long way. The rest was not too bad except running back up the rail trail which is not that steep but it is a steady climb for about 3/4 mile. I ran it slow but ran the entire course. I've still not decided if I'm going to run or not in the 5K. I'm afraid there won't be many runners and I would hate to come in near the end of the pack. Big races are better. I know I can't win but I won't be last..ha
Sunday:
I decided that Sunday was going to be my long run. The longest I've ever run at one time is 60 minutes. I was aiming at 90 mintues this time. I had sort of tracked out where I was going to run. I found a route from my house that was pretty flat, only a few little humps to climb. I started out in front of my house and ran up and down my road for 30 minutes. The headed out the Startown road to the middle school. I would say it is around 1.5 miles or a little more from my house to the school. When I got to the school I ran around the track 4 times (1 mile). Track running is boring to me. Then I headed back down the road towards home. By the time I got to my house I had run for 92 minutes. I got my phone out of my pouch and the dang GPS had stopped, so I don't know exactly how many miles I ran. I estimated I ran somewhere between 7.5 and 8 miles. Soon I'm going to go to the park and run there since the course is marked by how far you have gone. I was happy that I did this and didn't stop. Hopefully I can run a long run most every weekend.

Funny Letter
I ran across this on My Fitness Pal today and had to share it on here.
Dear Fat,
We've been together for quite some time but I'm writing to tell you that I'm breaking up with you. It's not me, it's you. You been bringing me down, depressing me and making me look bad in front of my friends. You've made me abandon all my fun clothes to spend more time with you. All my friends keep telling me you're no good for me and I've finally decided to listen to them.
I know those late nights with Ben and Jerry were fun, but they're over now. I've changed and moved on. Plus, I'm starting to see someone else. Yes, I'm seeing Skinny Jeans and she complements me better than you ever did. Please don't beg me to come back. Don't try to tease me with gifts of pizza and chocolate and tell me it's all gonna be okay. That one more time won't matter. Its time you get off my ass, and leave me alone. In most relationships, you hope for the best for the other, but I actually hope you never find anyone else.
I know you're saying, "Well, It's your loss". I truly hope it is.
Sincerely,
The New Me

Run 3 miles
Walk 3 miles
87 minutes

I learned something new today. If I do my running before my walking I burn more calories. I guess my heart rate is still up. I ran while I was waiting on my walking buddy to get out of a meeting today so I did it all at once. Then it was BO-Time!

Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K
It was a pretty chilly 44 degrees this morning for the Myrtle Beach Coastal 5K. I got up at 5:45 to get ready. We arrived at the Grand Dunes Marina around 7:00 for the 7:30 start of the race. The parking lot was full. We got on our bibs and headed up to the starting point. They announced that the race was a sellout at 750 runners registered. We managed to get about 1/3 of the way back from the start line. The horn blew and we were off to a fast start. I probably ran harder than I should have for the first mile. My time at the 1 mile mark was 10:20. The race was an out and back so I knew if I made it half-way by 15 minutes I might have a chance of finishing 32 minutes. But, by the time I was at the halfway point I was at 16 minutes and I knew the run back to the finish line would be a little slower. I wish I would have pushed just a little harder and tried to at least be under 33 minutes. My final time was 33:20. That was about 30 seconds faster than my last year time and I am a year older now...ha. I had a very good time running this race for the 2nd year.
Next year I will register earlier and do it online. What a mess we had on Friday picking up our packets. I mailed in the entry form a month ago and the check was never cleared in my bank until a few days ago. Thank goodness I printed the canceled check. They did find my info in the computer but Tommy's wasn't in there but they found his mailed in form so all was fixed. The only disappointing part was our bib numbers didn't have our names printed on it. We just had a number.
Running a 5K or any race is a good reason to visit the coast of NC or SC. I'll use this excuse to come to the beach anytime.
My results are posted here if this link will work:

Saturday 10-15-11
I found a new great place to run. We have a new hospital and it has a 1 mile paved trail around it. So I decided to give it a try. I started out on the downhill side but about half way through you have a steady climb for about 1/3 of a mile. I need to climb hills more. I managed to run 3 miles then ran another minute to make it 3.1 miles (estimated). I did it in 33 minutes. Then the 4th lap I walked and ran in 12 minutes and walked the 5th lap. So I got in a 5 mile walk/run day on Saturday. I will go back there again soon.

Thursday 10-13-11
Sheila, Tammy and I had our after work walk today. It was windy but still warm. We walked the back streets in town up hills and down for a total of 75 minutes. Lincolnton is a nice town to walk in but there are some good hills to climb. We've been pretty easy on Tammy most days but today we gave her one of our harder walks and she did great.
While I had my supper baking I decided to run on the treadmill since I didn't run yesterday. (I just walked 3.5 miles on Wed.) I ran 2.25 miles. Then ate my supper and it was good. I found a new recipe online called Spasagna. Oh my it was good. It was a baked spaghetti with Alfredo sauce and mozzarella cheese baked then you topped it with spaghetti sauce with ground beef. Very good stuff...fattening too I'm sure.
Totals for today: 101 minutes - 520 calories
75 minutes walking 275 calories burned
26 minutes running 245 calories burned

Running on Sunday
I went out to try and do a long run today. I was wanting to run for 60 minutes but I couldn't quiet make it. I did run 50 minutes without stopping. That is the longest run I've ever had. It will probably be next weekend until I try to beat that time. It's hard during the week to run more than 30-35 minutes but I'll see how it goes this week. I also walked a mile.
Run 50 minutes at least 4 miles or more total
burned 482 calories
Walked 1 mile
didn't use my HRM on the walking.
